In order to consolidate the internet presence of the Forest of Dean Cats Protection branch, we have decided to close down this site in June 2020, & operate through the main Cats Protection website.

Our Facebook page will remain open & we hope you will continue to support, follow & share…

The Forest Cat will remain closed until further notice to support social distancing. We will let you know our re-opening date as soon as we know it, meanwhile:

Stay safe & well everyone & thank you for your loyal custom.

Our shop opened at 28a Newerne Street, Lydney in 2001 and is staffed by a wonderful band of some 25 volunteers led by our experienced manager. Without the time and effort so generously donated by our volunteers, we could not exist! The shop generates a significant income which helps to defray the considerable expenses involved in helping Forest cats. Our main expenses are, inevitably, incurred for veterinary care for the cats in our care.

Additionally we have to pay for quantities of cat food and biscuits, cat litter and for transporting cats to and from the vets. Due to a generous legacy, we were able to purchase our own van in 2007 which you may see out and about.

We also run regular neutering campaigns to enable those less well off to have their cats neutered at a vastly reduced rate.

New volunteers and customers are always welcome, especially those bringing us good quality items to sell!

Please be kind and DON’T bring us rubbish as we have to pay to dispose of it and this money would be better spent on helping the cats! Forgive the frankness but we cannot sell dirty, torn or stained clothes or bedding, cracked or broken objects or large items of furniture (no space). The tip is free to all bringing waste in private vehicles so please help us to use the shop’s income for the cats!
